It is the capital of the state of the Alagoas. It presents a modern urban drawing and is encircled with rich vegetation. The city had its origin in one old device of sugar, in middle of century XVIII. Its development started with the arrival of boats that took wood of the cove of the Jaraguá. With the sprouting of devices, Maceió started to export sugar, later tobacco, coconut, leather and some spices. The historical past of Maceió can be appreciated in the quarter of Jaraguá, with the port, the large house and the warehouses. |
