During more than two centuries, up to 1763, it was the capital of Brazil and of that time it conserves one rich historical quantity and architectural. Monastery of São Bento - It was the first constructed monastery outside of the Europe, that together with the Church and the Convent of San Francisco, constitutes one of the more important religious sets of Brazil.
