It is the capital of the state of Pará and the biggest metropolis of the region north. When the river Amazon arrives at the sea, is branched off in two arms, Belém is situated in the south arm. For this reason, it is become into one of the main doors of entrance the Amazon region. Moreover, it constitutes an important commercial and economic center. During century XIX, thanks to the rubber production, its port was most important of the region. The center of the city is the Avenue President Vargas, who transcorre between the bay and the Theater of the Peace, in the square of the Republic. Belém counts on pretty monuments, especially the churches catholics, as of the Grace, oldest of the city, the end of century XVII, and constructed in baroque style. In the Cathedral, of 1748, it is distinguished noble painting collection. Also deserve a visit to the Church of Santo Alexandre and the Basilica of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, where the procession of the Wax candle of Nazaré celebrates itself annually, the most important of the region north. ISLAND OF MARAJÓ |

It is the biggest fluvial and sea island of the world. It presents a rich and intense vegetation of two types: savannah and forest. The great peculiarity is the buffalos, created in fields that in the months of January and June appear supertown of these animals. Moreover, the sea turtles offer an authentic spectacle that will surprise the visitor. Many possibilities exist to carry through ecotouristics routes for the rivers, natural canals, water streams and springs. This island is the cradle of the Marajoara civilization, a pre-Columbian culture whose influence still can be observed in the artesanato of ceramics produced in the place, whose more recent units are dated of century XVII. |

This city is located in the point of meeting of the river Amazon with the river Tapajós (one of the more crystalline water rivers of the Amazonian basin), with white beach sets of ten, between the water and the forest. A visit to the Museum of the Center of Preservation of the Aboriginal Art is recommendable, with 1.500 parts of 57 Amazonian groups and of the state of the Mato Grosso. |
