SANTA CATARINA

With 370,000 inhabitants, Florianópolis is the only capital of a Brazilian State whose population is dominated, numerically, for another one of the interior, Joinville, with about 440,000 inhabitants. Wealth and abundance are a mark of Florianópolis when the subject is beach. With 42 beaches, some savages, others of an uncommon beauty and come back toward the sophisticated and international tourism, some of hot and calm waters, agitated and cold others.

FLORIANÓPOLIS <FLORIPA>

Its first inhabitants had been the guaranis tupis indians, who had given the first denominations to it: Miembipe and Jurerê Mirim. The first one to arrive in the port was a Spanish navigator Cabeza de Vaca in 1541. The expeditioners had arrived a century later with Francisco Dias Velho, that the population established on Nossa Senhora of Desterro. To keep it, the Portuguese government sent for it, since 1748 to 1756, about 5,000 colonists, that left the islands of the Açores and Madeira. In 1894, in a homage to marshal Floriano Peixoto, the city received the current denomination - Florianópolis, the muse of thousand of tourists attracted not only by history, but also by the natural attributes of the Island of Santa Catarina, where she is located most of the city.
